Originally from the Dutch Country of Lancaster, PA, Gary Straub migrated to the South, where he was educated, has served and now resides.
He brings 40 years of congregational ministry, evangelism, fund-raising, strategic ministry planning, counseling and spiritual direction to his consultation and coaching work with The Columbia Partnership. Straub has served churches in Chattanooga and Memphis, TN as well as Frankfort, KY.
He continues to do Intentional Interim work with a particular focus on the consultation, stewardship, evangelism and leadership coaching needs of a congregation.

More Information About Gary
Gary’s educational background embraces a wide spectrum of experience, including an undergraduate degree from Ozark Bible College, a Masters in Pastoral Care and a doctorate in Pastoral Psychology from Vanderbilt Divinity School, and a Master of Theology from Princeton Seminary. He is a certified Spiritual Director from Shalem Institute, in Washington, DC and trained with Valwood as a leadership coach.
Straub offers consultation and coaching, workshops, seminars and work sessions on a wide array of congregational interests while also doing prayer retreats and spiritual leadership events.
Offering national leadership to two General Units of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Gary has chaired both Disciples Home Mission and Church Extension. One of his active projects these days is working with The Bethany Fellowships, which mentors young pastors in their early years of parish ministry, when the national drop-out rate currently exceeds 35%.
While he has published 3 books with Chalice Press in the spiritual leadership area, his most widely known work is still “Your Calling as an Elder.”
Geneva, Gary’s spouse of over 40 years, is a Clinical Specialist Psychiatric Nurse with a thriving counseling practice in Frankfort, KY. They have two grown, married daughters, a grandson and twin granddaughters. The entire clan currently claims Louisville, KY as “home.” In their “spare time” Geneva and Gary enjoy walking, mystery novels, grandkids and gardening.
